A Better Cooling System

One of the primary differences between us and the other guy is our cooling system. Traditionally, data centers are cooled by pumping cold air under a raised floor. Vents are cut or opened in the floor allowing the chilly air to be forced into the ever–heating room.

Rather than fight the natural laws of gravity and heat by trying to push the heavy cold air up to the top of the data center where all the light hot air is going, we chose a more intuitive approach by deploying cool air where it´s needed most: higher in the room and in between the racks.

The technology we use to do this is not new — in fact, chilled water plants are rather common. Applying this technology to a local data center, however, is pretty cutting–edge.
